About

What is psychiatry?

Psychiatry is a branch of medicine which helps people dealing with a wide range of mental health conditions, helping to prevent, manage, treat and recover from these. Mental health conditions can include depression, anxiety, bipolar affective disorder, psychosis, obsessive compulsive disorder, eating disorders, personality disorders, adjustment disorders and more. As a general adult psychiatrist, Dr Boland works with people aged 18 - 65 experiencing various mental health conditions and concerns.

What is Jungian analysis?

Jungian analysis is a type of talking therapy/ depth psychology developed by Carl Jung that attempts to integrate the conscious and unconscious parts of the psyche to guide personal growth. It looks at the whole person, mind, body and soul. The central goal is 'individuation', the process of becoming a more whole and integrated individual. This can involve looking at the 'shadow' (the unconscious aspects of the personality that are often repressed or denied), identifying 'complexes', looking at the unconscious through dreams, symbols and creative processes which can help to access parts of the psyche we may not be aware of. It can help individuals to find more meaning and purpose in their lives, develop more healthy and fulfilling relationships, lead to improved self-awareness and enhance personal growth.
